Why I need it...Number 1 I don't want to spend too muchbecause I change my mind too often and I have other priorities like some expensive re-upholstery projects to save for. Number 2 we really need something for under the flat screen and I'm really not into ubiquitous furniture at the momentWhy I'm not sure Well I'd paint it but what color. Black? White? something interesting ? Is it too bulky? Is my house going to look like a museum if I don't start mixing all my traditional furniture with some modern stuff (on the other hand I do have two really modern sofas and a nice clean line armoire and I could always put some modern-ish lamps on this couldn't I) Should it be longer? Ohhh my head hurts...do I go with my instinct buy it, paint it, try it and if I hate it sell it..It's soooo cheap and a stereo cabinet from the 60's which is kinda interesting..Do opine...please you three
P.S. the modern sofas and armoire will not be in the same room as this. This would be for the family room. I will post pics as soon as I can.. ◦

If it's super cheap and you have the time and enegy to paint it, go for it! Will you replace the handles? I always think these pieces look great in a crisp white but I suppose it depends on the room it will be in. If it doesn't work you can always sell it as you say, or repurpose it (it might make a great fairy princess dressing table someday!).
I think its a really nice piece and your painting it & changing the hardware can bring it into the 21st century.
But I'd need to see photos of the room you're putting it in to suggest a color.
