Elizabeth Martin is a genius.

Ali Wentworth & George Stephanopoulos' Fabulous home as designed by Elizabeth Martin was featured in Elle Decor recently. Click above to see the 14 picture slide show (there's much more to see). And now for my commentary..as if you need it.

Where do I begin. First off this home is the perfect balance between feminine and masculine. who would've ever thought pink poufs and a rug with lavender swirly things could look so sophisticated and elegant.. Love love love the dark walls. I think it works great with light floors. Love the pop of color on the bookshelves, love the fabric on all three chairs...love the long curtains. I especially love that its not uptight, decorator-ish and predictable.A Fuschia Settee in a room with muted, organic, textural materials..again the things Ms. Martin has paired up here are so unexpected. It's like a girl with natural beauty (you know the kind) great skin, natural hair, no makeup, wearing a pair of fabulous pink beaded earrings..
I love the shells. (Ali W. has collected them her whole life). Sentimental. Clean. Pretty --all showcased in a very utilitarian no fuss way. LOVE IT!

Just one last interior shot

K. One of my dream careers would be an interior designer,--I know join the other thousands of bloggers feeling the same.

I don't know if I'd make it though because I might be slightly too predictable (is that a bad thing designers? or does that brand a person?hmm) I just love symmetry. This could work with any colors, wood finishes and fabrics--switch out the lamps and ta da..I would be done. It's just the perfect formula I think. I guess the trick might be in the fabrics and finishes not the actual furniture placement..maybe I'll become a legitimate designer someday and find out. ◦

Chocolate

I love this. I don't get the placement of huge TV that only one chair faces but this is gorgeous. If this is your image let me know and I'll give proper credit.
I also think this would be fairly inexpensive to recreate..any dresser with simple lines could be painted white, any desk painted..I think the point here is the enveloping color all over..and the great fabric on the curtains and the parsons chair..

Great Chairs

I love these chairs. I'm usually into a more traditional look, but these are cool. I like those floors too. ◦

Perfect Office

I found this beautifully organized office on Real Simple's website...here I love everything! The color scheme, the huge white bulletin board, the dresser-like unit which holds everything (see below)
The daybed is gorgeous.

I LOVE this!

I've even purchased a settee so I can do this as soon as I possibly can. I saw this on Sugar City Journal --an amazing blog..one of my new favorites. It was one of the pictures of her friends beautiful house (tour featured on cookie magazine). Go look at the other pics here. ◦

Design Tip

En Masse works! Not that I'm a designer..but over and over I've seen this work. I honestly think you could put 15 hairbrushes in shadow boxes and it would work on one wall. I think the trick is, it has to be a one of a kind collection, or meaningful to you--otherwise it's too "Vern Yip" as they say. ◦

Fuschia & Brown..it's like I willed it.

Fuschia has always been one of my favorite colors, that and Navy blue. Lately I've been loving fuschia with brown, that is, after I accidentally dressed my little girl in this combination.
So look what I saw today in the new PB kids catalog. I LOVE this headboard and bedskirt and Hexagon quilt.

Hamptons House

Chris and Cristina Cuomo's Hamptons Weekend home is beautiful! As decorated by Emma Pilikington and featured on Elle Decor's June Issue which is ridiculously awesome. Click here for the rest of the pics. This house is the perfect combination of modern and classic. I especially love the fabrics and mirrored surfaces. So so Pretty.

I love the Oly Shell chandelier, and mirrored table I do not however like the staged straw bags.

The Madeline Weinrib fabric (in Navy Luce) looks killer on this settee.

This room is my favorite. I love everything. The chairs have Weinrib fabric again this time in purple..purple? who would've thought. This is the best example, I think, of using different colors together so rooms don't look so "decorated." The mix seems crazy but it looks great. The wall are farrow& ball pale powder, the curtains are an olive print, the sofa looks charcoal-ish (in the mag) and are you kidding me with the lime green pillows, purple chairs..crazy pretty.

One Great Designer

Windsor Smith (featured in Domino a while back) has great taste. I love every single room in her portfolio. The symmetry, the stripes..classic with a twist.

I love the letters on the wall, the light blue cribs with the dark wood..so beautiful.

the stripes and the painted floors are awesome. I would've never thought of this color combination.

Have I mentioned how much I love yellow..

In my dream house I want a big cozy couch like this in the kitchen. I love Roman Shades and they are so easy to make.

I love the yellow desk.

Martha's Craft Room

Martha Stewart really knows how to do a Craft Room. I love this Room. I'm going to use it as inspiration for my own craft/playroom when I move. This is proof that a room can be bright and happy without having a zillion colors all over the place. This room looks organized and creative, and could be done in any color. The painted pieces would look great in blue or red too.

This fits perfectly with an idea I've had to create a series of long tables and cabinets in a bright room filled with craft materials a computer, and school supplies for my kids to do homework on. It's a bit early for the baby but Daniel will be in Kindergarten in the Fall.

This would be their room.

I would shamelessly copy every inch of this space. I especially love the big art piece.

Random Thoughts about me and the Times

In college I had a Mass Communications class wherein the proffessor a.k.a Lady of Torture required we read the NY Times from cover to cover every day. Fine, great. We should all be challenging ourselves to be more informed and whatnot. The problem however, was that when the class met 3 times a week, she would test us on random articles, I'm talking, she would test us on the most random little details, she made it absolutely impossible to do well on those "quizzes" and therefore in her class, as they made up a substantial portion of our overall grade.

Anyway, since that time I have had a genuine aversion for and extreme hostility toward that paper. Today, however, I stumbled upon an image which directed me to their website, and yes, in a moment of weakness I clicked and gave in to their awesome collection of slide shows in the Style section. I hate to admit that I can see the beginning of hope for me and the Times. Today it's the style section, tomorrow who knows? We might make it after all.

Below are my faves ( I hope it's legal to post these pics..in case you're reading Mr. Times I am linking to you (see above slide shows) and crediting you and your delightful subjects for a fabulous style section)Photos by Bill Cunningham

Love love love it all

Perfect hair, coat, shoes, bag....this would be my perfect outfit...what's yours?

I love Chesterfield chairs & sofas on so many levels I can't even tell you. The modern stark stuff I can do without.

I Love this Dining Room

Sheila Bridges is one of my favorite designers. She is brilliant! This room is from the Ebay Showhouse back in 2004 and I have never forgotten it. I love the plate wall and hope to have some version of this in my house someday. BTW notice the symmetry in this room..impeccable!
