More Happiness

I think I've mentioned here before that I love lists and completing tasks. New Year's has always been one of my favorite holiday for this reason, I love making goals and resolutions, but, because of the crazy circumstances and events of the last 2 months I'd put it off, feeling like, well, like I'd lost the last two months. Knowing myself, by starting late I wouldn't stand a chance anyway, and trust me, to me every day counts. Besides the fact that those goals I so eagerly ponder, type-up, print and practically frame are so soon forgotten and dismissed as unrealistic. Lucky for me, I found a blog called The Happiness Project.

This blog is a must read, the author is also writing a book, she really has it together and has really inspired me. I loved going through the archived Wednesday Tips on the left hand column--especially the one about the many uses of Ziplock bags. She has this thing she says (and a mini movie about it) "The days are long, but the years are short," in in reference to child-raising so true. But back to the point...

Through that blog I found the 101 things to do in 1001 days project. Basically it involves creating a list with tasks that are specific (with no ambiguity in wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (requiring some effort on your part) (their wording).

So obviously, this spoke to me. 1001 days is about 2.75 years. Perfect! enough time to make serious life goals but not so long that I'll loose focus and motivation because personally, I need built in time to fail and try again. I don't plan on posting my list on their site but I thought I'd share a few here. I broke my goals into categories, that's the organizer in me, with goals that are both quite important and others that are not so much.

Here are some just to give you a taste of my madness...

Spiritual:Pray daily. Go to church even when I'm sick. (because I went to work when I was sick)
Physical:Cut Sugar for 1 month ( I have such a serious addiction that I honestly think it will take that many tries to accomplish this..on the upside, I might not crave it anymore after a month)Run 5 K ( I also suck at running and always have..so I'm starting small. In truth I hope to surpass this one and make it to a 10K..a marathon is a life goal maybe the next 1001 days)
Learn to play Tennis well (emphasis on well)
Financial:Buy a house. Research & possibly attain a small business loans
Relationship/Emotional: One family outing/activity a week. One extended family activity a month
Intellectual Pursuits/Self-Improvement: Learn to swim (big fear). Start a Book Club. Take a Photography class.
Fun/Misc: Learn to play Golf. Download all my CD's into my computer. Put all family photos into albums. Watch a live Baseball game (considering I grew up in the Bronx, close to Yankee Stadium, it's pitiful that I haven't done this..what can I say, my Dad took my brothers while I watched my mom decorate cakes..

I may have to restart my little timer ticker countdown thing because I have re-think and re-word some of them.

I love goal setting and self improvement.
This is a timely post because I was going to ask if your organization skills carried over into your goal setting and time management.
Those look like very good goals and dividing them up into the different facets of your life is perfect.
